Instructors

The club’s chief instructor is Master Stephen Blomeley, 6th Dan, Master of the Ki-Taekwondo Association.  Master Blomeley regularly gives seminars and each semester examines members for the belt gradings at the club. Our club instructor is David Grey, 2nd Dan, who is supported by several black belt assistants. Our club members are actively competitive at national competitions.

New to Taekwondo?

Don't worry if you’ve never done taekwondo before: almost 90% of our new members are complete beginners so you will be in good company. If you already have experience in taekwondo (whatever the style), that’s great; we’re always looking for new students with experience. People practise taekwondo for a variety of reasons – self-defence, keeping fit or just as a new challenge and experience. The club will cater for all of these, so you won’t be put in a position where you’ll have to fight if you don’t want to; but if you do, you’ll be taught how to, effectively and safely.

Social Events

But training isn’t all blood, sweat, tears and back breaking sessions, oh no! The club has, without doubt, the best social events of any of the uni’s martial arts clubs. Socials tend to be every two to three weeks. Past socials have seen us party around the clubs in Brum, but most socials tend to center around the pubs in Selly Oak (complete with unnecessarily bizarre fancy dress from time to time!) and finish in the Guild. For those who are looking for more outdoor pursuits, excursions to Alton Towers and paintballing events have been and will be organised.

Signing Up

So, if you're interested (and we know you are, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading our website) come along and give it a try. The first 2 sessions are completely free. After that students need to pay the following fees:

AU Fee - £10
Club Fee - £90
Licence* & Taekwondo Suit - £40  (licence available alone)

This is excellent value for money as this entitles you to over 150 hours of training time for less than a pound per hour!

*The annual membership/insurance with the national body, the BTCB, which permits members to train at hundreds of clubs across the United Kingdom.

Separate fees apply for non-students.
