Captain:

Jonny Price

I joined the club in September 2008 and was elected the Club Captain for the coming year by the existing members in 2009. I originally practiced ITF Taekwondo for over 3 years but after a few years off I returned to the sport in the form of WTF, which I find to be much more fun and a great sport to be involved with.

In my first year I really enjoyed everything that the club had to offer and took part in the Student Nationals, as well as a training camp in Aylesbury at Easter and one in Hungary over the summer.

I am extremely excited about the coming year, and am hoping to lead the club onto great success and bring home the gold from the Nationals. So if you have any questions that need answering, just drop an email to birminghamunitaekwondo@gmail.com. Hope to see you at training soon!

Vice Captain:

Kiran Basra

Hi I’m Kiran, the Vice Captain of Birmingham Taekwondo. I became interested in the martial art a couple of years ago and began to practice TAGB Taekwondo. I joined this WTF Club only a year ago when I began University. I’ve met such a diverse and friendly group of people, attended nationals, and even travelled to Hungary for a fight camp. As VC I assist the Captain in all his roles and responsibilities. With This new committee I know this next year will be awesome.

Club Administrator:

Majel McGranahan

I have been at the amazing club they call “Birmingham Taekwondo Club” since I began my career as a student at Birmingham last year. Coming from Brighton, the club appealed as a social hub that could rival my home town, as well as the most awesome opportunity to practise an exciting martial art and improve my fitness. In my pre-committee days, I took part in the student nationals as well as the training camp in Hungary, both of which were great fun and enthused me to apply for a position in the committee. As club administrator, administrating for the club is my key priority, as well as providing a hand to anyone who wants one.

Secretary:

Jess Bethom

Hey, I’m Jess and I’m this year’s Secretary. I started Taekwondo in September last year as a complete novice to the sport. I got stuck in straight away competing in Student Nationals and completing Fight Camp in Hungary this summer, which was awesome. It’s my job to record all questions, queries and suggestions and to raise them to the committee. I’m also there to make sure everyone is up to date paper-wise, so if you have any queries about licences or insurance etc, then I’m your girl.

Treasurer:

Pete Keeley

Hi,
I’m Peter and I am the treasurer of the club this year. My job is to handle all matters concerning money, from the main budget to small incomings and outgoings of money.
This is my second year practicing taekwondo. I started in my first year of university. I had never done a martial art before and finding it quite different to other sports I have played, I have enjoyed my first year in taekwondo and the challenge of a new sport.
I hope the new season will be as enjoyable as the last, and the club continues to be successful and a great place to train.

Social Secretary:

Kiran Rajasansi

This will be my third year as a University of Birmingham student and my second as a Taekwondo student. Having never participated in any other martial arts previously, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first joined the club in 2008. However, I found it to be a great way to meet new people, have fun and keep fit and now attend regular sessions. I also competed in the Student Nationals and attended the training camps in Aylesbury and then in Hungary.

The social events were a great way to see other club members outside of the club and definitely helped in getting to know one another. I plan to arrange as many socials as possible for the coming year to improve your university experience.

If anyone has any suggestions/requests for any socials, just let me know!

Webmaster:

Ibrahim Ibrahim

Hi, I'm Ibrahim :)  I've been practising WTF (Kukkiwon) taekwondo since I started university; this is my eighth consecutive year at the club.  I have taken part in virtually all aspects of student taekwondo, from competing at the Student Nationals and Birmingham Open, to attending several annual UK Fight Camps, attending the Hungary Camp and most recently, taking part on a training trip to Seoul, South Korea. I am currently a 2nd Dan black belt, and practice Wing Chun kung fu also.

I'll be the Webmaster for the year, so if you've got any ideas, recommendations or complaints about the site/Facebook group; I'm your target!

Ibby :)
