Overview

This will be the third Universum taekwondo summer camp and it will be held on the shores of Lake Balaton, the world's largest freshwater lake outside Scandinavia. The Southampton University TKD Team have been to the last two camps - in Zanka in 2005, and also last year in Battonya, near the Romanian border. All the members of the Southampton team said they had a fantastic time in Hungary. This year we are extending invitations to all BSTF clubs – everyone is welcome.

The Location

Zanka, Lake Balaton is excellent. It is a purpose built sports and activities center on the north shore of Lake Balaton. Swimming, canoeing, boating, beach volleyball, football, table-tennis are some of the sports on offer throughout the week. We will be organizing various sports competitions throughout the week.

The fee for the week is £120. This covers all your accommodation, food (three meals a day), training (three training sessions a day) and also the social activities held each evening (movie night, watermelon party, talent contest, sports competitions, trip to Siofok).

Getting to Hungary

There are two options. Fly direct to Budapest and take the train to Zanka ( 1.5 hours) – (we will help you to find accommodation in Budapest and take you to the train station). Easyjet, Wizzair, SkyEurope, Jet2, airberlin, germanwings, BA, Malev and many other airlines fly to Hungary. Alternatively, Ryanair flies direct to Lake Balaton twice a week from Stansted. If you book your tickets within one month, the expected cost of return plane ticket is £100.

Yes, this is important and is best arranged by yourselves in the UK.

What is Hungary like?

In the summer the weather is very hot. Lake Balaton is a wine region and is very beautiful. Hungarians are friendly people. Beer costs 60p a pint and wine £1 a bottle!

Why are we having a summer camp?

Taekwondo summer camps are extremely popular in Hungary. The aim of the camp is to have fun, learn taekwondo in a safe way and to practice parts of the taekwondo syllabus that we don't have time to do during regular training sessions. It's also an opportunity for you to have a memorable holiday with your friends in your taekwondo club and learn more about Hungary.

Application Deadlines

A deposit of £30 per person is required by no later than 15th April 2007 (paid into a UK bank account). The remainder can be paid on arrival at the camp.

Who am I?

I am a veteran of Southampton University TKD Team (1991-1994) and live in Hungary with my wife, who is Hungarian. 2nd Dan. My name is Andrew Dorrian.
